2009 BRCA 1:12th Oval RulesFor Hot Rod - Mini Stox & Bangers as used by Medway Mini Stox Club, For club nights General Construction Rules1)
No car
shall be constructed so as to be dangerous to persons or cause damage to
competitor’s cars or to the track surface. No sharp or protruding objects are
allowed on the cars. 2)
Body and
chassis must be securely joined at the start of race and must remain on car
during the race. When initially entered at a meeting the body shell must be
neatly finished and complete. 3)
Steel
whip aerials and rollover masts are not allowed. 4)
Radio
control receivers carried in the car can have either two devices connected,
(normally the steering servo and the speed controller) or 3 channel (can be used
for flashing lights for club level or superstars for national level). 5)
No tyre
additives are allowed. 6)
The use
of multiple speed transmissions (gearboxes) is not allowed, only 32dp pitch
gears will be allowed. 7)
Only one
drive motor is allowed per car. 8)
ONLY
BRCA approved rechargeable cells may be used. 9)
For
drivers wishing to develop or modify cars, this should be done and tested at
club level. The next stage maybe to
test at National level, with the consent of the committee.
Any testing at Nationals, will lead to the driver going to the last
position after qualifying ie if there are 20 drivers competing, after qualifying
the testing driver will be deemed to be 20th.
No testing driver will pick up any points for the series or receive any
trophies. Mini Stox Construction Rules 1)
Cars to
be 1/12th scale reasonable representation of a full size Mini type car. 2)
Any make
of servo saver may be used on the steering servo. 3)
Any make
of track rod or ends may be used. 4)
The
tyres may be changed from the original kit tyres (sleeved tyres are allowed on
the all Mini Stox) 5)
Body
shells are to be of ABS construction only, all windows must be cut out as per
original, (no portholes) 6) Ball
races allowed on rear axle only. 7)
Only
Mini Stox or R12 parts to be used. No
V12 suspension parts. Countersunk screws must not be used on the underside of
chassis. 8)
Any
commercially available speed controller may be used, must have reverse fitted
and working. Mechanical to have a maximum retail price of £30-00, Electronic £65-00.
Receiver battery packs are allowed. 9)
Any
holes drilled must be used or filled. 10)
The
motor may be fitted to either side of the chassis, providing that there is no
modification or alteration to the chassis or mounting blocks. 11)
Max.
width of car including body shell to be the same as the V12 Hot-Rod. Max. length
of car, including bumpers if fitted to be 292mm. Bumpers to be fitted
externally. 12)
Bumpers
to be fitted and constructed from a non-metallic material. Width max 160mm but
must not protrude beyond the wheels. Height to be no more than 30mm. Front
bumper must be grid like with a top and bottom rail. Front and rear bumpers must
be fitted to the chassis, not the body shell. 13)
Max
width of tyres to be front 25.4mm and rear 32mm. Max tyre diameter to be 57mm.
Only foam tyres allowed. 14)
A
maximum of 4 cells and 4.8 volts nominal to be allowed 15)
Motors
must be Mabuchi RS540SH or the G2 only and must remain unopened. External motor
bearings or fine pitch gears are not allowed. 16)
Steel whip aerials and rollover masts are not
allowed, and aerials must remain inside the body shell. 17)
At BRCA
events drivers name and BRCA number must be clearly displayed at the top of the
front windscreen, not less than 5mm high. Official BRCA race number must be
displayed on both sides of the car. 18)
At BRCA
events the drivers roof grade colour (if known) must be on the roof of the car
either painted or using tape to cover a minimum area 50 sq.mm. 20)
Body and
chassis must be securely joined at all times the car is on the track. No wings
or aerofoils or any under body aids are allowed. 21)
Alternative
motor pinions may be used, providing no alteration is made to the motor mounting
blocks. Motor fluid and additives are allowed. 22)
If you
intend to alter your car in any way that is not covered by the above, you must
check with the Mini Stox scrutineer, for approval. We expect all drivers to use
common sense when modifying cars and to enter into the spirit of the sport. 23)
There
must be a minimum ground clearance of 3mm, this is to include any protruding
screws, 1mm clearance for spur gear. 24)
Due to
the unavailability of some spares for the old Mini Stox, substitute part may be
used (such as available and used by the 1/12th Stock cars - i.e. motor mounts
& front axle beam), providing they conform to any sizes within the rest of
the construction rules. For
clarification, advice must be sort from the BRCA Mini Stox scrutineer. 25)
If any
scratch built parts are being used. Parts
must be available to other competitors to purchase. 26) Chassis
to be single piece & constructed in GRP only, measuring no more than 220mm
in length and 80mm in width. Notches
allowed in chassis for wheel clearance. Hotrod Construction Rules1)
Cars to
be 1/12th scale Mardave V12 series chassis with any commercially available body
shell. 2)
Any make

ABS body
shells are allowed, all windows must be cut out or clearly defined.
Polycarbonate body shells are allowed, windows must remain clear, not tinted or
maybe cut out. 6)
Ball
races allowed on rear axle only. Rear axle and spur gear must remain as kit. 7)
Chassis
and front and rear wheel carriers and suspension springs to be as kit.
Countersunk chassis may be used. 8)
Any
commercially available speed controller may be used, must have reverse fitted
and working. Mechanical to have a maximum retail price of £30, Electronic £65.

Only
nine extra holes (max. 3mm) may be drilled in the chassis, two holes must be
used for mounting the steering servo, two holes to be used for mounting an
on/off switch, and one hole to mount the aerial tube, and a max of four holes
for alternative battery mounting, if any of these items are not used, then the
holes must not be drilled. Any holes drilled and not used must be filled.
Chassis top mounting plate may be changed, altered or removed. 10)
The
motor may be fitted to either side of the chassis, providing that there is no
modification or alteration to the chassis or mounting blocks. 11)
External
front and rear bumpers are not allowed. 12)
Min
20mm. Max 26mm width of tyres and
Max 60mm diameter no Min diameter of tyres, but the tyre must cover the wheel.
Any foam tyre compound allowed. A
minimum ground clearance of 3mm. 13)
Maximum
four cells with a nominal 4.8 volts. 14)
Motors
must be Mabuchi RS540SH, G2 only and must remain unopened. External motor
bearings or fine pitch gears are not allowed.
No physical internal alterations to the motor brushes or cranking the
com. Any one found doing so will be
banned for one season. 14a)
Brushless
motors, to be run as a separate class. 15)
Steel
whip aerials and rollover masts are not allowed, and aerials must remain inside
the body shell. 16) At
BRCA events drivers name and BRCA number must be clearly displayed at the top of
the front windscreen, not less than 5mm high. 17)
At BRCA
events the drivers roof grade colour (if known) must be on the roof of the car
either painted or using tape. The colour must cover all of the rooftop. 18)
Aerofoils
are allowed but be commercially available 19)

one made from GRP (max 2mm thickness) may be used. Dimensions are, maximum
length 270mm, width 90mm, no additional strengthening allowed. 2)
Only
V12, Mini, Rebel parts may be used in construction exceptions are: a)
Track
rods and servo savers maybe upgraded. b)
Pinion/Spur
gears to be 32 dp. c)
Ball
Races may be fitted to rear axle assembly only. d)
Electronic
speed controller are not permitted, any manual speedboard operated by a wiper
arm can be used. e)
Tyres,
only foam type may be used. 3)
Cells,
only 4-cell sub C rated cells. 4)
Body
shells a)
Body
shells to be of ABS moulding. Windows
must be completely removed as per the original car. If moulding has window
outlines then these have to be used : No portholes or half windows. b)
Any
commercially approved 1/12th shell. c)
Roof
fins may be fitted, no further forward than the middle of the roof, no more than
2 fins allowed plastic only. Fins to
no more than 1” high x 1” wide, no metal fins allowed, they must not possess
any sharp edges, and must have the drivers racing number on both sides of the
fin. No wings or aero-foil’s
allowed. d)
Strengthening
& Repairs are allowed, you may use glue sticks, tape, cable ties, joining
plates may be used (metal plates not allowed) in conjunction with nuts and
bolts, no screws allowed. All sharp
edges must be filed, and any protrusions must be on inside of the body shell. e)
Name and
Number of the driver must be clearly visible on both sides of the body shell at
all times. f)
Body
shell preparation should be neatly presented, no unsightly rude or offensive
slogans, gestures are allowed. g)
Body
mounts - you may use 3 or 4 mounts, made from plastic no more than 10mm in
diameter and must not protrude more than 10mm through the body shell.
All body clips must be flush with the body shell, there must be at least
1cm (10mm) clearance between shell and chassis front and rear of the car. h)
Roof
grade markings must cover the whole of the roof area. 5)
No
internal or external bumpers are allowed. 6)
No
additional ballast allowed on the car. 7)
Transponder
must be fixed onto the car and not the body shell. 8)
Additives
- only motor cleaning fluids is allowed. Under
no circumstances are tyre additives allowed (instant disqualification for one
calendar year if found to be using any). 9)
Motors
must be Mardave Mabuchi RS540SH or G2 only and must remain unopened. External

Limos -
Maximum width 90mm, 3mm thick, length to suit body shell providing the chassis
does not protrude beyond the wheels. All
other rules apply the same. Warning, if it’s not in the rules then it is not legal, always check with Race Directory before you do it!
